What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags are small, soft growths of skin that hang from
the surface on a thin stalk. They are entirely benign and
very common — most adults will develop at least one at
some point in their lives.
They tend to appear in areas where skin rubs against
skin or clothing: the neck, underarms, eyelids, and
under the breasts. Skin tags are more common during
pregnancy, with weight gain, and as we age. They are
harmless, but many people find them uncomfortable
when caught on jewellery or clothing, or simply
want them gone for cosmetic reasons.
The NHS now rarely removes skin tags, as they are classified as a cosmetic concern. Private treatment at a specialist clinic is the most accessible route for most people in Grimsby and the surrounding area.
Skin Tag Removal with CryoPen in Grimsby
At Aggie Singh Clinic we use CryoPen, a medical-grade cryotherapy device that delivers a precise, controlled stream of nitrous oxide directly onto the skin tag.
The nitrous oxide reaches temperatures as low as -89°C at the tip, freezing the tissue of the tag at the cellular level. Because the CryoPen applicator is so precise, it targets only the tag itself — the healthy skin around it stays untouched.
Why CryoPen?
-
Precision — treats just the tag, not surrounding skin
-
Speed — most treatments take only a few minutes per lesion
-
No downtime — back to your normal day straight after
-
No blades, no open wounds, no sutures
-

What to Expect
Before: A brief consultation to assess the lesion and confirm it is a benign skin tag suitable for CryoPen removal. Please avoid heavy creams or make-up on the area on the day.
During: A few seconds of CryoPen applied per lesion. You may feel a brief cold or stinging sensation — most people find it very tolerable. No local anaesthetic is usually needed. Multiple small tags can often be treated in one session.
After: Slight redness and minor swelling are normal. A small blister or scab may form and the tag will darken and fall away naturally within 1 to 2 weeks. Keep the area clean and dry, don't pick it, and use SPF once healed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does skin tag removal with CryoPen hurt?
Most people find the treatment very comfortable. You may feel a brief cold or stinging sensation while the nitrous oxide is applied — similar to a light ice-cube touch. It lasts only a few seconds per lesion. Local anaesthetic is not usually needed, though your comfort is always discussed before we begin.
How long does skin tag removal take?
The treatment itself is quick. Most appointments, including a brief assessment, take around 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of lesions being treated.
How many sessions will I need?
Many skin tags can be fully resolved in a single session. Occasionally, a larger or more stubborn tag may benefit from a follow-up treatment. Aggie will advise you on what to expect for your specific case at the time of consultation.
Is CryoPen skin tag removal safe?
CryoPen is a well-established, medical-grade device used by clinicians worldwide for benign skin lesion removal. Aggie has extensive experience using CryoPen and will assess your skin tag before treatment to confirm it is appropriate for this method. As with any skin treatment, there is a small risk of temporary redness, blistering, or pigment change. Aggie will talk you through all of this at your appointment
Will there be scarring?
CryoPen is designed to be precise, targeting only the tag while leaving surrounding skin untouched. A small pink or lighter-coloured mark may remain temporarily after the scab falls away, and this usually fades over the following weeks. Significant scarring is uncommon. Individual results vary.
Can the NHS remove skin tags?
In most cases, no. The NHS generally classifies skin tag removal as a cosmetic procedure and does not routinely offer it. Private treatment at a specialist clinic is the practical route for most people.
Can you remove skin tags near the eye?
Skin tags around the eye area can be treated with care and precision using CryoPen. Aggie will assess the location and suitability during your consultation. Safety and precision are always the priority.
How do I know if it is a skin tag and not something else?
Skin tags are soft, flesh-coloured, and hang from a thin stalk. If you are at all unsure about a lesion — if it has changed colour, grown quickly, bleeds, or looks unusual — please consult your GP first to rule out anything that needs medical attention. We can treat confirmed benign skin tags; we do offer dermatology diagnostic services at extra cost.
